What's new in iOS17?

FaceTimeThe app can save our audio and video messages when the person we are calling cannot pick up their cell phone. During a call in the app, it will be easier to add reactions (heart, fireworks, rain, etc.) with gestures. FaceTime will also make it possible to receive calls on Apple TV.
Thanks to the continuity camera, the call can be started directly on the TV. There will also be a focus option, which is only known for participants in conferences and online meetings. The camera captures people moving around the room, for example. This is a very useful function.

New messages

There are some important changes here too, especially for people who are annoyed about receiving voice messages when they can't listen to them. In iOS17, these voice messages are automatically transcribed so you can find out what the sender was talking about and listen to the recording at a convenient time. Additional new features:

Add stickers from your own photos. Thanks to the automatic cropping of objects from photos, we can create our own live stickers. The stickers can then be stored in a so-called drawer, which can be easily accessed anywhere in the system.

The improved filtering makes it easier to find an interesting message, even if it was posted many days ago.

Easier location sharing in the form of messages, which we can use, for example, to inform certain people that we have arrived safely at our destination or to communicate our current location.

Text input has been improved through the use of machine learning technologies. It predicts and suggests words, making it easier to enter text and write messages. The new model used for the dictation function guarantees even more precise operation.

Telephone

With the newly introduced Contact Posters option, we can create a customized graphic to be displayed on the caller's phone. This is another level of personalization and a way to express ourselves in everyday communication.

A new feature of the Live Voicemail app allows you to see the generated text of the message the caller is recording in real time. This helps you decide whether you want to answer the call.

NameDrop

NameDrop is an extension of the AirDrop service that allows you to quickly transfer contact information between phones that are close to each other. If the phones move away from each other, the transfer is not interrupted and continues thanks to the Internet connection.

Waiting state

When the locked phone is horizontal, it can perform an informative function. Information of our choice is displayed on the screen, e.g. the time or the current weather. Widgets ensure that you don't have to unlock the phone every time you want to find out something interesting.

Diary

Diary is a new application that analyzes our activities on the iPhone and creates a summary of the day. Our memories are stored in the app and can be easily retrieved. This looks like a promising feature that will, among other things, allow us to remember where we were and what we did on a particular day.

Health

Worth mentioning in the context of increasing mental health issues is the new feature of the Health app, which will also support this area by recording moods and emotions, among other things.

When will iOS 17 be released?

The stable version of the system is expected to be introduced in September this year with the presentation of a new phone model.
