NEC 244WM review - the perfect monitor for your business

The NEC 244 with IPS matrix is a widescreen monitor with a wide range of applications in everyday use. Today I have decided to focus specifically on this monitor.

NEC 244WMi - external appearance

First impression. When I received the device for description, I already knew that it is equipped with LED backlighting. I have to admit that I definitely like this type of display better as it is much, much thinner than fluorescent panels. In addition, this type of backlight has a longer lifespan and makes the NEC 244WMi look ultra-modern.

Despite the slimmed-down frame, the panel contains everything you need for office work. So there is no shortage of light intensity and presence sensors. The NEC 244WMi is also equipped with a 130 mm wide adjustable stand. The stand can of course be removed and the panel attached to a VESA mount. Adjustment is also possible: vertical screen tilt / horizontal screen rotation from -5 to +30; -170 to +170. The monitor is not lacking in connections either, as it has connections such as DisplayPort, HDMI, DVID and D-Sub, and there are also USB connections on the side. The panel weighs 7.5 kg and measures 556.2 x 408.9 x 230 mm.

NEC 244WMi - picture quality

The external appearance is of course nothing compared to what the panel offers in terms of picture quality. First of all, it is an IPS matrix, i.e. In-Plane-Switching. These matrices were developed by Hitachi in 1996 to address the two main shortcomings of TN panels, namely poor viewing angles and color reproduction.

The crystals in this panel were arranged in parallel, which reduced light scattering. Secondly, the NEC 244 monitor is equipped with DICOM simulation, a technology used in medicine. Monitors in this segment are used in medical diagnostics, especially for image processing in computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR), positron emission tomography (PET), digital subtraction angiography (DSA), digital conventional radiography (CR), digital radiography (DR) and all research using high-resolution digital technologies.

Other functions

The other functions may not be as spectacular as those mentioned above, but they will certainly be used every day in the office, at home or in the laboratory. Also worth mentioning are the built-in speakers, which of course are not the best quality, but they will certainly suffice for watching a movie or a Skype call. Ambient light sensor - with the automatic brightness adjustment function, the NEC 244WMi monitor always sets the optimum brightness level according to the ambient light and the parameters of the displayed content. With the NaViSet Administrator 2 software, on the other hand, all monitors of this type can be managed from a central location. For those who want to take care of the environment, there is also an ECO function and a carbon footprint counter.

Finally, the figures that speak in favor of the NEC 244WMi should be mentioned. Response time: 6 ms, horizontal viewing angle: 178 degrees, vertical viewing angle: 178 degrees, number of colors: 16.77 million, contrast: 1000:1 (25000:1 dynamic contrast) resolution: 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz. The monitor can also be rotated thanks to the PIVOT function.

Thanks to its functions, parameters and possibilities, the NEC 244WMi is a versatile panel that can be used practically anywhere. It has been in our range for a long time and its price is very attractive.
